Cisco dominates, Ericsson & ADC Telecom makes move into top 10; Ericsson joint-ventures rank within top 50 7/26/2010 1:58:33 PM Only two new companies joined the Patent Scorecard™ this quarter, the second of which is Lantiq Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co.KG(Neubiberg, Germany) who debuts in the Telecom and Communications Patent Scorecard at 100th. Lantiq’s leading indicator is Research Intensity™, with 50% more of their portfolio has above average scientific referencing then the industry average. A higher score indicates that the company’s technology is closer to the cutting-edge than its competitors. Lantiq is a supplier of a broad portfolio of analogue, digital and mixed-signal integrated circuits.
The Telecom & Communications industry had a 12% increase in patent volume this period, a 2% slowing in Innovation Cycle Time™ yet a 2% increase in Industry Impact™. Research Intensity™ continues to slow within the industry with another 4% decrease this period demonstrating less attention of core research as an industry.
Cisco Systems, Inc. (San Jose, California, USA) continues to dominate the top rank on this week’s Patent Scorecard. Cisco holds a comfortable lead over the industry, and had a patent count increase of 9%, slightly below the 12% industry average increase. It also had a 33% improvement in Research Intensity™ for the period. Qualcomm, Inc. (San Diego, California, USA) pressed ahead to move into 2nd position with a 33% increase in patent volume and a solid performance in patent impact performance. Qualcomm also leads the industry in Research Intensity™ and is over double that of its nearest competitor, Cisco.
