DuPont continues to lead industry, Chisso Corp. and LG Chemical LTD break into the Top 10

The latest Chemicals Patent Scorecard™ was released today and has ranked 170 of the top Chemicals companies according to the relative strengths of their patent portfolios as measured by Technology Strength™. The Patent Scorecard™ provides an overall assessment of a company’s recent intellectual property quality and quantity at a broad industry level. The Patent Board tracks seventeen industry scorecards and also creates customized scorecards that provide insight with leading performance indicators for an entire portfolio and its closest competitors, scalable at the technology or business unit level.


The biggest mover this Patent Scorecard™ is Adeka Corp. (Tokyo, Japan) which jumps 46 spots to 39th. This diversified manufacturer of industrial chemicals moved up on the strength of an 82% increase in patent count and a 58% improvement in Industry Impact™, now over double the industry average. Science Strength™ for the company also went up by 90%.  Adeka has a new patent for a method for producing stabilized polymer. Moving into the Top 50 and up 15 spots to 50th is Zeon Corp. (Tokyo, Japan). Zeon means “eternally flourishing by obtaining materials from the earth.” Patent count was up almost 41%, Industry Impact™ improved by 22% and Science Strength™ increased by 36%. The company was recently granted a patent for an elastomer composition and pressure-sensitive adhesives made by using same.
