Medtronic increases its lead while Masimo drops out of the top 10 for the first time 6/17/2010 9:45:30 AM The latest Medical Devices & Services Patent Scorecard™ was released today and has ranked 128 of the top Medical Devices & Services companies according to the relative strengths of their patent portfolios as measured by Technology Strength™. The Patent Scorecard™ provides an overall assessment of a company’s recent intellectual property quality and quantity at a broad industry level. The Patent Board tracks seventeen industry scorecards and also creates customized scorecards that provide insight with leading performance indicators for an entire portfolio and its closest competitors, scalable at the technology or business unit level.
There are three new companies debuting on the Patent Scorecard™ this quarter. Accuray Inc. (Sunnyvale, California, USA) enters at 20th, Pelikan Technologies Inc. (Palo Alto, California, USA) enters at 28th, and Stereotaxis Inc. (St. Louis, Missouri, USA) enters at 34th. Accuray has a new patent for dynamic tracking of soft tissue targets with ultrasound images, without using fiducial markers. Pelikan makes handheld medical diagnostic and monitoring devices, and has been granted a patent for a method and apparatus for improving success rate of blood yield from a finger stick. Stereotaxis develops remote magnetic navigation devices used in interventional cardiology, and has a new patent for navigation using sensed physiological data as feedback.
