According to The Patent Board’s Heavy Industrial Equipment Patent Scorecard™ published in The Wall Street Journal, big movers Doosan and Okuma continue their rise up the Patent Scorecard
Caterpillar, Inc. (Peoria, Illinois, USA) and Deere & Company (Moline, Illinois, USA) continue in the top 2 spots due to high patent volume with their patents having an impact that is above the industry. They both increased their science indicators over last quarter and rank first and second by Science Strength™ respectively. Caterpillar’s high science linked patents are related to computer modeling and programs for model error correction, risk assessment, maintenance and sensor control; while Deere’s are related to guidance and location detection. Deere is committed to renewable energy and has a wind energy division and one of the higher science linked patents this past year is 7,426,454 "Method and system for determining a location of a wind-powered electrical energy facility". Caterpillar continues to have the lowest (quickest) Innovation Cycle Time™ of the top 10, however Deere does have individual patents with quick cycle times, including the aforementioned patent.
