Who’s Who?
This year there are seven new and returning companies to lead their respective industries – including Fallbrook Technologies, Inc., Samsung Group, Royal Dutch Shell plc, Stine Seed Company, Schneider Electric SA, IBM Corporation and Boston Scientific Corporation. Four companies reaching the lead for their industry for the first time include Fallbrook Technologies Inc, Samsung Group, Schneider Electric SA, Stine Seed Company, and three companies – including IBM Corporation, Boston Scientific Corporation and Royal Dutch Shell plc - reclaimed their lead from two years ago.

Leader Among Their Industries
Fallbrook Technologies, Inc. (Fallbrook) takes the lead with a small yet extremely impactful patent portfolio to power their way to the top of the Automotive and Transportation industry, displacing Denso Corporation along with other major automotive companies. Fallbrook currently manufactures a NuVinci® continuously variable planetary (CVP) for light electric vehicles and scooters as well as a revolutionary bicycle hub, an award winning product in bicycle focused countries like the Netherlands and Germany. While Fallbrook manufactures certain products itself, it plans to commercialize various applications of its technology through licensing and development partnerships. Fallbrook’s rank is primarily due to strong internal citations; this pattern is very often one found in companies with a new breakthrough idea that has not yet matured.
