Global Patent Rankings Minimize
When you think of the leaders in an industry or technology you may often jump to the most prolific countries, but those countries may not be the source of the most important or cutting edge developments. The GPS contains diverse indicators of technological innovation that allow analysis from both quantity and quality perspectives. The GPS realigns patent portfolios from a focus on organizations to a focus on inventor nationality. This realignment to origin-based patenting develops a broader understanding of the global locations in which innovation is occurring. The GPS reviews patents issued since 1980 to inventors from 59 countries and can be used as a tool to compare the performance of these countries.
